Farol Island
Ilha do Farol
Farol Island, also known as Ilha do Farol, is a small island located off the coast of the Algarve region in southern Portugal. The island is part of the Ria Formosa Natural Park and is a popular destination for tourists seeking beautiful beaches, crystal-clear waters, and scenic views.
The island has no cars, so visitors usually walk or use bicycles to get around. There are several restaurants and bars on the island, as well as a few small shops.
Beaches
The main attraction of Farol Island is its beaches. The island has two main beaches, Praia do Farol and Praia da Barreta, which are both known for their soft white sand and clear turquoise waters. Praia do Farol is the more popular of the two and can get crowded during peak tourist season, while Praia da Barreta is more secluded and less busy.
Farol lighthouse
In addition to its beaches, Farol Island is also home to a lighthouse that gives the island its name. The lighthouse was built in 1851 and is still in operation today. Visitors can climb to the top of the lighthouse for panoramic views of the island and the surrounding sea.
